 Khichidi Recipe | ಖಿಚಿಡಿ 


Khichidi is a healthy combination of rice and lentils. Combination of moong dal, toor dal and rice makes it more nutritious. This can be a lunch/ breakfast or dinner recipe. This onepot recipe is easy to prepare yet it is healthiest option. 

If you have small kids who have just started their meal, then this recipe can be the apt one. But if you are preparing for toddlers, do skip the tempering part and also add very less amount of spices.

Ingredients required

  • Rice - 1 Cup
  • Moong dal / green gram dal - 3/4 cup
  • Toor dal / pegeon pea - 1/4 cup
  • Black pepper powder - 1 Tsp
  • Grated Ginger - 1/2 Tsp or 1 inch
  • Jaggery - 1/2 Tsp
  • Water - 6 Cups
  • Ghee - 2 Tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 Tsp
  • Cumin / Jeera seeds - 1/2 Tsp
  • Curry leaves - 1 Tsp
  • Cashew - As per the taste
  • Turmeric - 1/4 Tsp
  • Salt - As per the taste

Method of preparation

  • Wash and soak moong dal and toor dal for 10-15 minutes. Wash Rice
  • Heat a cooker, add ghee , once ghee is hot add mustard seeds, jeera, curry leaves and cashew to it.
  • fry it until jeera and mustard seeds splutters.
  • Now add Rice and Dals. Mix them well.
  • At this point add turmeric powder, salt and jaggery.
  • Now add water and mix them well.
  • After adding water add black pepper powder and stir them well.
  • Now add 1/4 tsp of ghee and close the lid of the cooker.
  • Wait for 4 whistels.
  • Now healthy and tasty khichidi is ready to serve.
  • Serve hot with ghee and papad.

Tips

  • If time is not available to pre soak the dals, in that case add 1 glass of more water and get 5 whistles.
  • Jaggery and cashew are optional ingredients they can be skipped.
  • For more spiciness add green chilli paste or finely chopped green chillies.
  • Asafoetida/ hing can be added to the recipe.

  • ತೊಗರಿ ಬೇಳೆ - ೧/೪ ಕಪ್ 
  • ಕಾಲು ಮೆಣಸಿನ ಪುಡಿ / ಒಳ್ಳೆ ಮೆಣಸು - ೧ ಟೀ ಚಮಚ 
  • ತುರಿದ ಶುಂಠಿ - ೧/೨ ಟೀ ಚಮಚ 
  • ಬೆಲ್ಲ - ೧/೨ ಟೀ ಚಮಚ 
  • ನೀರು - ೬ ಗ್ಲಾಸ್ 
  • ತುಪ್ಪ - ೨ ಟೀ ಚಮಚ 
  • ಸಾಸಿವೆ - ೧/೨ ಟೀ ಚಮಚ 
  • ಜೀರಿಗೆ - ೧/೨ ಟೀ ಚಮಚ 
  • ಕರಿಬೇವು - ೧ ಟೀ ಚಮಚ 
  • ಗೋಡಂಬಿ / ಗೇರುಬೀಜ - ೨ ಟೀ ಚಮಚ 
  • ಅರಶಿನ - ೧/೪ ಟೀ ಚಮಚ 
  • ಉಪ್ಪು - ರುಚಿಗೆ ತಕ್ಕಷ್ಟು  

ಮಾಡುವ ವಿಧಾನ 

  • ಹೆಸರು ಬೇಳೆ ಮತ್ತು ತೊಗರಿಬೇಳೆಯನ್ನು ತೊಳೆದು ಸುಮಾರು ೧೦ ರಿಂದ ೧೫ ನಿಮಿಷಗಳ ಕಾಲ ನೆನೆಸಿ ಇಡಬೇಕು. 
  • ಇನ್ನು ಅಕ್ಕಿಯನ್ನು ಕೂಡ ತೊಳೆದು ಇಡಬೇಕು. 
  • ಒಂದು ಕುಕ್ಕರ್ ನ್ನು ಬಿಸಿ ಮಾಡಿ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ತುಪ್ಪ ಹಾಕಿ ಅದು ಬಿಸಿ ಆದ ನಂತರ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಸಾಸಿವೆ, ಜೀರಿಗೆ, ಕರಿಬೇವು ಮತ್ತು ಗೋಡಂಬಿ ಹಾಕಿ ಸಾಸಿವೆ ಮತ್ತು ಜೀರಿಗೆ ಸಿಡಿಯುವ ತನಕ ಹುರಿಯಬೇಕು. 
  • ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಅಕ್ಕಿ ಮಾತು ಬೇಳೆ  ಹಾಕಿ ಮಿಕ್ಸ್ ಮಾಡಿ ಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು. 
  • ಇನ್ನು ಅರಶಿನ, ಉಪ್ಪು, ಬೆಲ್ಲ ಹಾಕಿ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ನೀರು ಹಾಕಿ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಬೆರೆಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು. 
  • ಇನ್ನು ಒಳ್ಳೆಮೆಣಸು ಹಾಕಿ ಮಿಕ್ಸ್ ಮಾಡಿ ನಂತರ ತುಪ್ಪ ಹಾಕಿ ಕುಕ್ಕರ್ ಮುಚ್ಚಬೇಕು. 
  • ೪ ಶಿಳ್ಳೆ ಆದ ನಂತರ ಗ್ಯಾಸ್ ಆಫ್ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು. 
  • ಇನ್ನು ಕುಕ್ಕರ್ ತಣಿದ ನಂತರ ಮುಚ್ಚಳ ತೆಗೆದರೆ ಖಿಚಿಡಿ ತಯಾರಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. 
  • ಇದನ್ನು ತುಪ್ಪ ಮತ್ತು ಹಪ್ಪಳದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸವಿಯಲು ನೀಡಿ.
